Tasks of the Service
According to the Decree of the Minister of Health No. 16/2000 (VI.8.), the National Personal Dosimetry Service (NPDS; in Hungarian: OSzDSz) provides an accredited and approved nation-wide occupational dosimetry service (a.k.a. individual monitoring service, IMS) for all radiation workers employed at all licensees (workplaces) applying any kind of ionizing radiation in Hungary. This service include:
- recording personal data of ionizing workers in the national dose registry
- determination of annual occupational doses to individual radiation workers, and summation of doses for 5 year long periods
- providing and evaulation of film dosemeters for radiation workers to control their external occupational photon (both X-ray and gamma) irradiation
- if a dose exceeds the limits declared by Decree of the Minister of Health No. 16/2000 (VI.8.), sending automatic notification to the proper workplace and authority to initiate investigation
- according to the Decree of the Minister of Health No. 31/2001 (X.3.) (consistently with Directive 90/641/EURATOM), official issuing and official acceptance of documents on individual monitoring of radiation workers (a.k.a. "dose certificate", "dose passport"), both in cases when Hungarian radiation workers intend to work in foreign countries and foreign radiation workers enter work in Hungary
- archiving data recorded in national dose registry for 50 years
