Tasks of Division
Tasks following from the expert institute status
- Guidance, evaluation of and harmonisation of the occupational radiohygiene activity of the seven State Public Health and Medical Officer Service centres and the Hungarian National Chief Medical Officer”s OfficeRelease of expert opinions for authority decisions
- Care of legal background of occupational radiohygiene, elaboration of decree drafts, standard drafts, methodology letters, guides for implementing regulation
- Expert activity in causes of occupational courts
Provision of by law enacted tasks, to be ordered from NRIRR
- Acceptance test of new medical diagnostic radiology equipment
- expert opinion for radiation protection qualification of radiating equipment
- expert opinion for type test of radiating equipment
- expert opinion for exemption scope to the atomic act for radiating equipment
- expert opinion for operational time extension of radiation sources
- expert opinion for radiohygiene authority licensing of establishment and putting into operation of medical irradiators, industrial accelerators and great irradiators and establishment of radionuclide producing facilities for authority licensing of use of unsealed sources out of isotope laboratories
- expert opinion for authority licensing of plans involving radiation safety of facilities of high priority (nuclear reactors, radioactive waste disposals) and radiation protection rules
As a part of Radiohygiene Department Laboratory the division performs the following accredited tests:
- MD 2.1: radiation protection measurements around neutron radiation producing equipments
- MD 2.2: radiation protection testing of diagnostic radiology equipment
- MD 2.3: acceptance and status test of diagnostic radiology equipment
- MD 2.6: radiation protection testing of industrial radiation equipment
- MD 2.7: radiation protection testing of medical X-ray workplaces (rooms)
- MD 2.8: radiation protection testing of high activity gamma teletherapy workplaces and equipment
- MD 2.9: radiation protection testing of linear accelerator workplaces
- MD 2.11: radiation protection testing of isotope laboratories
- MD 2.12: conformance test of diagnostic radiology and X-ray surface therapy active medical devices
Non accredited tests:
- Patient dosimetry examinations (TLD, DAP and CTDI measurements in frame of from 1989 flowing National Patient Dose Assessment Program, to establish national reference levels)
- Measurement of X-ray tube focal spot sizes by means of RTI Real-Time Focusmeter
- Examination and qualification of radiation protection devices
- Examination of acessories (cassette, intensifying screen, scatter grid)
Ongoing research tasks (2008)
- Study of frequency of interventional radiology procedures, and radiation doses to patients and the possibilities of reduction of exposure in the frame of Health Scientific Council project
- Participation in international standardization: in the working groups dedicated to diagnostic radiology equipment and X-ray tube assemblies of the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) SC62B (radiation protection, safety, quality assurance)
- Research to definite disposal of low, medium and high activity radioactive wastes in the frame of Hungarian projects
- The control of orphan radiation sources. The survey of that places, where the detection of orphan sources is most probably (gate monitoring systems).
- The revision of Hungarian radiation protection standards of workplaces.
- The completion of complex ecological monitoring program in the environment of the radioactive waste disposal plant at Püspökszilágy
- Monitoring and mitigation of mine water impact in Upper Silesia region-increasing of research and development potential in Central Mining Institute,
