Objectives and tasks of NSRHEP

National Service for Radiation Health Preparedness (NSRHEP) performs its duties - according to Ordinance by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Hungary No. 8848-11/2009., Order of Minister of Health No. 16/2000 and Decree of the Government No. 17/1996 - defining the radiation health related tasks in case of emergency caused by radioactive materials or devices producing ionizing radiation (except in nuclear establishments) and providing professional leadership for implementation of necessary actions to protect health of the involved persons.

NRHPS is operated by the NRIRR. The necessary logistics for its operation are provided by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Hungary.

Tasks of NRHPS:

• measurements in the site of emergency and evaluation of the radiation rates and leveles
• consultations
• actions, advice for actions by the police
• transport of the found or confiscated radioactive sources(s) - using the special truck of the NSRHEP in accordance with paragraph 5 of the Decree of the Government No. 17/1996
• temporary disposal of the radiation source(s) on site of the NRIRR, Budapest and resolution on its final disposal in the Central Radioactive Waste Disposal Site of Hungary
